coastal blue and weathered gray nursery

Ok, goal for the new year is to start posting more so that we can share more ideas with you all!! We love showing fun before & afters and all the work along the way to get a piece from drab to fab :-) We need to do that more often - promise we will!!

Just love how far this piece has come:

We have a client with a baby boy on the way and she found this antique wardrobe that was sitting in a resale shop. It had definitely seen better days! Not the best picture, but it looked just about as worn down in person.

Somehow, between the time we had seen the original picture and when we went to pick up at the resale shop, it had acquired several large holes in the backboard, hmmmm.......Always an interesting story to tell while hunting for furniture.

After taking this wardrobe apart, sanding it down, cleaning it and then finally having a new backboard and top put on, we were able to start painting. We used General Finishes Coastal Blue - the most perfect shade of navy.

Some close ups:

We were lucky that the original knobs were intact, so they got a fresh coat of spray - we used Rustoleum Carmel Latte, soft gold without looking too "gold". Both of the cabinet doors had problems latching, so we added some new hardware to help them stay put. This cute little pull wasn't original to the piece, but we think it looks like it belongs :-)

After some sanding, a clear coat of wax and MUCH buffing, it was ready to make its way to a sweet little boy's room (due in a few weeks)!!

Did you catch that we said Coastal Blue and Weathered Gray nursery? This piece is headed to the nursery too :-)

And here is the before:

It's hard to tell from the picture, but this changing table was originally solid white. It was in EXCELLENT shape and heavy, heavy, heavy. We snatched this one for our client and planned a makeover using a layering technique with different shades of grays. We started by sanding the entire piece - we don't always sand, but this one was shiny with a slick finish that needed to be prepped before the new paint would adhere. We layered Annie Sloan's French Linen and Paris Gray then used a power sander to give a weathered look.

Check out the details:

And those knobs - LOVE

Just loving that our client was so happy with her new pieces. One last look at the Coastal Blue and Weathered Gray:
