country cabinet gets colorful update

We've always wanted to do a piece like this - so much color....This rustic corner cabinet was perfect for this look - it came complete with the slatted wood, which made the stripes that much easier to paint.

So we started with this and yes, it had a beautiful "before" look, but we love to mix stuff up!!

We get so excited when we find a neat piece like this. We had a client quickly grab it for a makeover and were putting our creative hats on when we saw the inspiration pic she sent us:

We spent a lot of time tossing color ideas around and making sure the selections looked pretty next to each other. Because the original wood on this cabinet was so pretty and rich in color, we left a lot of the piece unpainted and only played with the front of the doors. I mean, come on, that is such a pretty color!!

After lots and lots of taping, we got started. Some layering, some distressing - Gorgeous!! We used General Finishes Tuscan Red, Dark Chocolate and Buttermilk Yellow, as well as Annie Sloan Provence, Dixie Belle Burlap and a few other custom mixes.

It's always special when we get to keep the original hardware. We try to do that whenever we can. Lookie at this:

We were able to call in my husband to add a shelf, making this cabinet even more functional for our client's home. Huge kuddos to him for not only adding the shelf, but doing it with a torn Achilles Tendon, while wearing a cast - bless his awesome heart! The perfectionist that he is, he even planked it so that it looked original to the piece.

So......tell us what you think!! Did we nail it? We tried to stay true to the piece and also make it fun, using our client's pic for inspiration. It's tough work being an artist!!!!!

We'll leave you with a pic our client sent us with the cabinet all snuggled in:
