farmhouse bench: grain sack inspired
One of our favorite shows right now is the popular HGTV Fixer Upper. If any show captures my style down to the last detail, it is this one. When I saw this antique school desk for sale, I knew I had to have it and I knew just what to do with it. I wanted it to look like something straight out of Fixer Upper. I've been seeing a lot of "grain sack" inspired decor lately and thought this would be the perfect piece to try.
Underneath all of the farmhouse goodness is this sweet school desk, circa 1920's:
I'd just love to know the history behind this piece!! Years and years in a classroom and it has certainly taken a serious beating. We had a duty to make it happy again :-)
Here was the inspiration:
Here she is in progress:
I had just gotten a beautiful new color sample in the mail from Farmhouse Paint in Pigeon Blue. It was perfect for our grain sack stripe.
To get this look, we painted the entire bench in General Finishes Antique White. We carefully measured where we would tape to get our grain sack stripe. We used our sample of Piegeon Blue and then distressed using a hand sander. The iron had a perfect patina and we decided to leave it in its original state.
Loving the chippy goodness!!
Wanted to make sure to send a shout out to Farmhouse Paint for offering us a sample of their paint. We LOVE the beautiful colors they have to choose from and it covers flawlessly!! We did another piece in this color and it took 1 coat!!! Seriously, just 1 coat!!!
So there she is and did we mention this one is for SALE!! You can find more details here if you are interested to claim this bench.
