desk makeover: general finishes coastal blue

We had a client looking to give her boyfriend a desk as a gift. She was going for a piece that looked "manly" and after several inspiration photos back and forth, she decided on a two-toned paint/stain look. We started with a very ordinary desk, nothing special, but it was solid and had great potential for clean lines. We ended with this handsome piece in General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint and Java Gel Stain. We hope we hit the nail on the head!

The top sanded down and stained beautifully, but we kept our fingers crossed that the drawers would do the same.....YES!!!

The drawers pull out for extra space.

We love to line drawers - it adds a special touch and is a great way to cover up drawers that have seen years of abuse.

This chair was a find from Craigslist and didn't necessarily match the desk in the beginning, but it looked like a match when we finished. We wanted to tie in the lined drawer with the freshly upholstered chair.

Have I mentioned our LOVE for staging pieces? We find them at garage sales, Craigslist, on sale at our favorite home decor stores or even pull from our own home. We'd been searching high and low for an antique typewriter. It's perfect for staging a desk - don't you agree?
